Bumpers

By Car Parts Sales at 04/20/07 10:01

car bumpers Bumpers
  • A bumper is a part of an automobile designed to allow one vehicle to impact with another and to withstand that collision without severe damage to the vehicle's frame
  • While bumpers were originally made of heavy steel, in later years they have been constructed of rubber, plastic, or painted light metal leaving them susceptible to damage from even minimal contact.
  • In the early 1970s self repairing bumpers was introduced and after a while they became mandatory
  • The fun of bumping one car into another led to the creation of bumper cars at amusement parks and carnivals. These small cars are designed to fit one or at most two people and crashed into each other consistently

  • A bucket seat is an upholstered seat in a car, truck, or motorboat that seats one person.
  • Bucket seats resemble the seats found in the cockpits of early aircrafts, and they are still used today. Single-pilot aircrafts have bucket seats.
  • In racing vehicles, there is usually only one bucket seat; vehicles sold to the general public often have two in the front of the compartment; they can also be found in the rear sections of the compartment.

Self Starters

By Car Parts Sales at 04/19/07 12:46
car self starters Self Starters
  • An automobile self starter is an electric motor that initiates piston motion in a car's internal combustion engine before it can power itself.
  • Originally, a hand crank was used to start engines, but it was inconvenient and rather hard work to crank the engine up to speed. It was also highly dangerous.
  • In 1903, United States Patent No. 745,157 was issued to Clyde J. Coleman of New York City for an electric automobile self-starter.
  • A license to Coleman's invention was purchased by the Delco Company, later acquired by the General Motors Corporation.
  • Coincidentally, the death of a friend from complications due to a jaw broken while hand-cranking his automobile impelled engineer Charles Kettering to replace the hand crank with an electric starter.

Air Filters

By Car Parts Sales at 04/19/07 11:14
car air filters Air Filters
  • The combustion air filter prevents abrasive particulate matter from entering the engine's cylinders, where it would cause mechanical wear and oil contamination.
  • The cabin air filter is typically a pleated-paper filter that is placed in the outside-air intake for the vehicle's passenger compartment.
  • Being a relatively recent addition to automobile equipment, this filter is often overlooked and clogged or dirty cabin air filters can significantly reduce airflow from the cabin vents, as well as introduce allergens into the cabin air stream.

auto parts Automotive Parts Job
Are you interested in cars and know the ins and outs of motors, wipers, and everything about a vehicle down to how to chrome the engine? Chances are you might be a good candidate for employment in an automotive parts job. There are many automotive parts stores in the country.

Some are privately owned while others are owned by a large corporation. Whichever company suits your needs, big or small, employers are seeking skilled professionals to assist customers with their automotive needs. Do you have basic computer skills?

Most companies can train you in the auto parts industry simply by training you on their computer systems. Many auto parts stores have the make and models of vehicles stored into their computers system. All the employee has to do is enter the make and model and do a basic search for products available that correspond with that certain type of vehicle.

So, if you're good with basic computer skills and are willing to learn data entry and retrieval, you could be successful in an auto parts technician job. Not only are their in house training programs available, there are also programs you can enroll in on the Internet and at local vocational training facilities to train you on becoming a knowledgeable automotive parts technician. Companies always take into account people skills when searching for a potential employee.

It is important to remember it's their business and therefore their livelihood and money you're dealing with. They want an employee that can service a customer with a smile and leave the customer feeling they received stellar service at their store. After all, a happy customer is usually a returning customer. If you haven't received formal training or attended a certification program in auto parts knowledge but have years of experience, then many store owners are still interesting in hiring you.

Nothing can replace years of experience when dealing with customer service and product knowledge. With the wide variety of products offered to a customer at most auto parts stores, it's almost impossible to learn without in store training. So if you're a seasoned customer service attendant or a new eager certificated employee, the automotive parts industry will be proud to have you.

Get out your local newspapers and search the classifieds, search on Internet job banks and narrow your search down before putting in your application. If there's a specific store in your community you're interested in working in, then it's a good idea to go into that store and ask if they have any vacancies and for application. You might want to take your resume with you at that time.

Traffic Tickets

By Luke Botticelli at 04/13/07 11:27
My daughter, while traveling to Pittsburgh in her Audi with some friends, was pulled over and given a traffic ticket for what the officer called a taillight.

In fact, the light that was not functioning was simply an extra running light more toward the center of her back bumper. In any case, I called the court to see what the total cost of the ticket was since they didn't fill out that part on the ticket.

I found out that even if you plead Not Guilty and then show up in court with a receipt for the bulb that was replaced or other proof that the item was fixed, it is STILL up to the judge's discretion whether you get back the money that you posted in advance to cover the ticket. I am wondering what the heck kind of scam this is, since I am sure it happens that lights will quit sometimes during the middle of a drive without you knowing.

If you make an honest effort and get it fixed immediately, you still get to pay the $115 for the ticket and even when you go in to court (two hours away), you are still not guaranteed you will get any of your money back! I think this sucks!

Noisy Front End

By Luke Botticelli at 04/12/07 14:30
Why do cars suddenly start making noise in the front end. It is really hard to explain to a mechanic what you hear coming from under your car. Have you ever tried to describe a noise your car is making. They look at me like I am a complete idiot.

My Dodge Caravan starting feeling very unstable in the front end and made some clunking and clanking noises every time you went over the slightest bump.

Well first the axle was replaced, then the stabilizer arm, and it is still making noise. How do you KNOW your car is safe, or whether it has more issues?

Automotive Instructor Job

By Jobseeker at 04/08/07 16:33
It is high time that you started turning that inclination for fixing cars into a lucrative new career. Getting into the market as an automotive instructor is easier than you think. There are more than 803,000 jobs in the American automotive industry and with many current automotive technicians eyeing retirement, someone is going to have to emerge to train the future automotive technicians of tomorrow as the industry grows even larger in opportunities.

Automotive Instructor Job-Places To Work

There are a number of institutions with automotive training programs. In the past, jobs for automotive training instructors were reserved to the traditional automotive trade and training schools. And that was only if the training school was lucky enough to find students that wanted to sign away six months to one year of their lives studying something they already knew like the back of their hand-or so they thought. Those training schools are still around today, the only difference is now they are facing a little competition.

In addition to the old school automotive trade and training schools, there are now junior and community colleges across the country offering majors with a focus in automotive training and automotive applied sciences. So your new career as an automotive training instructor may be in one of the three leading types of institutions offering education for aspiring automotive technicians.

The consensus amongst the hiring giants in the industry is that it takes more than just killer skills with brake shoes and heat and cooling systems to be a new age automotive technician. Two year college programs offer a balance between solid automotive training, and everything else in between. One of the major reasons for the switch from six month automotive training programs to coveted Associate Degrees from community colleges is the introduction of technology into the automotive industry.

Technology And Your New Job

That common theme is the use of technology in almost any job in the automotive industry. Since cars and trucks were introduced to some of the most complex and advanced systems, they have been the biggest part of getting high quality vehicles on the roadways.Today's automotive technicians are able to work with electrical appliances that will tell that how to repair modern car problems. Many of the tools involved with modern car repair are also computer based, as are most technical car manuals.

Not only will technology be important to training automotive technicians, but to the automotive instructor job as well. Someone has to be around to teach students training for their automotive degrees just how to stay current on new technological upgrades on cars and trucks, and how to repair and maintain the health of the world's futuristic cars. Instructors who can co-exist comfortably with the new innovative face of cars will be most likely to snag a job.
