Traffic Tickets

By Luke Botticelli at 04/13/07 11:27

My daughter, while traveling to Pittsburgh in her Audi with some friends, was pulled over and given a traffic ticket for what the officer called a taillight.

In fact, the light that was not functioning was simply an extra running light more toward the center of her back bumper. In any case, I called the court to see what the total cost of the ticket was since they didn't fill out that part on the ticket.

I found out that even if you plead Not Guilty and then show up in court with a receipt for the bulb that was replaced or other proof that the item was fixed, it is STILL up to the judge's discretion whether you get back the money that you posted in advance to cover the ticket. I am wondering what the heck kind of scam this is, since I am sure it happens that lights will quit sometimes during the middle of a drive without you knowing.

If you make an honest effort and get it fixed immediately, you still get to pay the $115 for the ticket and even when you go in to court (two hours away), you are still not guaranteed you will get any of your money back! I think this sucks!
